- No accounts, no email addresses. There is nothing to sign up for.
- Field layout and Park plan work from the address bar: the sizes you type are in the page address and are not stored, unless you save the sheet.
- Field Book: we store the sheets you save (a name you choose and the sizes and options) and a salted hash of the book's key. The key itself lives only in your link and in a browser cookie (HttpOnly, secure). Please don't put personal details in sheet names.
- Rate limits use a salted hash of your network address, kept for two days. The app's own error logs are kept 30 days; the web server keeps standard access logs (address, time, page address, which for the calculators includes the sizes you typed) under the host's normal rotation.
- No tracking cookies, no analytics services, no outside fonts. Every file is served from this site except the banner from adengine.us on the public pages, described under Advertising; it is the only outside service any page loads, and it also counts one page view per page as a daily total.
- Cookies: two, both needed for the site to work: one for the Field Book key (only once you start, open or save to a Field Book) and one security (CSRF) cookie for forms. Neither tracks you across sites.
- Deleting: delete a sheet or the whole Field Book from the Field Book page; it is gone from the database at once. Copies can remain for a while in backups: the nightly database backups roll off after 14 days; the copies taken before and after each software update, and the hosting server's own account backups, have no fixed expiry and are used only to repair the site. Field Books unused for 400 days are deleted automatically.
Advertising
The public pages of Stake & String (home, Field layout and Park plan, method, pricing and about) show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. The calculators show no ad while a saved Field Book sheet is open in them, and the Field Book, saved sheets, this page and the terms show none.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your network address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests. It is not sent the page address, so the sizes you type never reach it.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your network address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (network address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
