Set corner A and the near side
Before you stake, ask the field owner or park office for permission to mark the ground, and call 811 before driving anything deeper than a surface pin.
Drive a stake at A. Pull a tape along the near side and set B at 180 ft. Run a string from A to B.
- 2
Swing the diagonals
Hook one tape at A and one at B. Where 90 ft from B meets 201 ft 3 in from A, set C. Where 90 ft from A meets the same diagonal from B, set D.
- 3
Check the box
C to D must read 180 ft, and B to D must equal A to C. If not, a corner is off: re-swing before you paint anything.
- 4
Mark everything else
Use the readings below: two tapes from the corners at that end, or walk along the near side and square in.
| Point | Along the near side from A | In from the near side | Two tapes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Centre mark | 90 ft | 45 ft | A 100 ft 7½ in · D 100 ft 7½ in |
| Halfway line, near end | 90 ft | 0 ft | A 90 ft · D 127 ft 3½ in |
| Halfway line, far end | 90 ft | 90 ft | A 127 ft 3½ in · D 90 ft |
